Celebrate the winter solstice in Potts Point

Ritual and ceremonies to celebrate the longest night, or winter solstice, go back to ancient times. Traditionally a time for reflection and renewal, midwinter celebrations often use symbolism of fire and light, marking the rebirth of the sun at the winter solstice and signifying new beginnings.

And so the Sydney Winter Solstice festival, in its inaugural year, is set to warm your soul with a packed program of arts, culture, food and entertainment. Showcasing the best that the city has to offer, the festival will breathe life into the short days and long nights with more than 200 events across 150 venues.

The festival program spans four precincts: CBD, Darling Harbour, Newtown, and Oxford Street and surrounds (includes Darlinghurst and Potts Point) and runs from 8 – 14 June 2021. Some of these events are ticketed, so if you’re keen to get along, make sure you click on the links below to find out more and book.

If you staying at Jensen Potts Point or Hotel Challis Potts Point, you’ll be in a prime location to catch some of the highlights of the festival. Here are our top picks just a short walk away:
