Bondi is coming to life this Winter
In the cooler winter months, the coastal community of Bondi comes to life with pop up events and festivals.
After taking a break last year due to the pandemic, the annual Bondi Winter Magic festival and the Bondi Feast fringe festival combine forces bringing us something bigger than ever. The all-new Bondi Festival is running from 25 June to 11 July 2021 and promises to keep you warm and entertained during the dark midwinter days. The program is absolutely brimming with performances and experiences including live theatre, cabaret, music, circus, talks and workshops. Expect to see some of Australia’s favourite artists, plus a surprise international act giving an intimate fireside performance by the beach one night.
The Baxley Bondi is the perfect place to stay for the Bondi Festival with up to 20% off selected room categories for stays booked until 31st of July.
Here are some of our top picks for the festival:
Bondi Festival Ice Rink
Really there’s nothing quite like the experience of skating on the ice with the iconic Bondi Beach as the backdrop. It’s not every day you get to skate by the sea!
If you’re keen to get your skates on, make sure you book your spot in advance, as it does get booked up.
Everyone loves a Ferris Wheel, and the bigger the better. Hop on the 32m high Ferris Wheel by day for breathtaking 360 degree views over Bondi and the Eastern Suburbs coastline. Or climb aboard at night for stunning nighttime vistas illuminated by disco lights.
Cosy up by the fire and watch the waves crashing in the background, as award-winning UK theatre company, the Flanagan Collective, take you on a journey. This in-ear audio storytelling project will take place at 7pm every Saturday night of the festival.
Perhaps not for the faint-hearted. This magic is ethereal, atmospheric and a little terrifying – after everything is gone from the world, a creature made of moss suns itself with its blacklight lamp, and revisits stories of life long past. A tale and also a magic show brought to you by Australian Magician and writer Harry Milas.
Explore the streets of Bondi with the best party in town.
Put on your headphones and get ready to get down as Guru Dudu takes you on a Silent Disco walking tour of the town.
Wayside Chapel and its social enterprise Heart Cafe on Roscoe Street will be home to the pop-up Bondi Festival Performance Hub hosting intimate performances, and Roscoe Street Mall will be transformed into the Bondi Festival Backyard, a chill-out zone with sustainability pop-ups every Saturday morning. The Festival will close with The Last Shot by Troy Russell and a collection of live music performances by First Nations artists, demonstrating in action how to “Heal Country”, in celebration of NAIDOC week.
And if you’re looking for a bite to eat or a drink to sip, make sure you check out the festival local partners at Bondi Festival Finds for inspiration and special offers. If you have NSW dine vouchers, now extended until 31st July, you can use them to purchase your meal.
