    A local guide to spending a morning in Bondi

    Bondi Beach, a name that summons up images of an idyllic, relaxed, beachside lifestyle. Affectionately know by locals as the ‘Bondi bubble’, because when you live here, there’s no reason to go anywhere else.

    Sometimes, when walking around the streets on a weekday morning, you could forgiven for thinking no one works around here. The suburb certainly has more than its fair share of entrepreneurs, business owners, expats and backpackers, so Bondi locals certainly seem to have plenty of time to enjoy their neighbourhood. Known for their love of a healthy, active lifestyle, you’ll often find the typical Bondi local outdoors with a smoothie in hand.


    Sunrise

    For the true Bondi morning experience, you should get up at sunrise and head to the beach for a surf, or a yoga session on the sand. Even better, catch the sunrise from the headland at Ben Buckler in North Bondi, the view is truly magical. Or a swim at the iconic Bondi Icebergs, perhaps followed by a sauna if you’re there in the cooler months.

    After that healthy start, a smoothie or açai bowl is surely in order. You can’t go wrong with a stop at Speedos Cafe in North Bondi, voted Sydney’s most instagrammable food, and with a view to match! Serving up new takes on old favourites alongside plenty of vegan, gluten and dairy-free options.

     

    Coastal walk

    If you are feeling particularly energetic after your healthy start to the day, why not run (or walk) the Bondi to Bronte coastal path. Not to be missed, the famous walk which starts behind Bondi Icebergs, has breathtaking views of the local coastline. Make the most of your workout by stopping along the way to get some reps in on the outdoor gym equipment. Incidentally, the North Bondi Outdoor Gym, next to the North Bondi Surf Lifesaving club is most definitely Bondi’s answer to LA’s muscle beach. Stop by for some eye candy as Bondi’s fittest work out, you might get to see some impressive acrobatics or capoeira too.


    Brunch

    After all that exercise, you have probably worked up quite an appetite. Time for some calorie loading with hearty brunch or lunch. If you’re coming back from the coastal path, head up Bondi Road to the famous Bennett Street Dairy, the jalapeño eggs Benedict are probably the best eggs benny you’ll find in Sydney, trust us. 

    If you can’t make it up the hill, you’ll find some truly delectable delights at Preach Cafe on Campbell parade. The finest ethically-sourced ingredients go into creating healthy, wholesome food with a middle eastern influence.


    Take a break

    After all that exertion, you are probably ready to recharge your batteries with a sit down and a coffee. Head up Bondi’s main shopping drag, Hall Street, check out some boutiques along the way, maybe with a detour along Gould Street, where you’ll find some of Australia’s best-known labels. Back onto Hall Street, head up to old school book shop and cafe, Gertrude and Alice. Browse their extensive collection of new and secondhand books, you’re sure to find something unexpected. Then treat yourself to a delicious slice of homemade cake, a fine artisan coffee and settle down with a book in hand.


    Get moving
